Why does the greater part of the unsaved (and maybe even some saved…shudder) population throughout the world view murder as sin but homosexuality as not a sin? We know they do not view murder as wrong because the Bible says it is wrong – there is something intrinsic to the act that repulses mankind. However, homosexuality does not have this affect on the unsaved. My immediate and obvious thought is that this is because they are taking a humanistic approach to sin. The humanistic viewpoint exalts man as the highest authority, not God. Therefore, something is only a ’sin’, or wrong, if it is harmful to man. But not only if it is harmful to man, but if it is perpetrated by another. Man in and of himself is the final authority and can deem what is right and wrong for himself, even if it is harmful to himself (as we, being saved, know homosexuality is). In other words, Jesus’ words that whoever commits a sexual sin commits sin against his own body would hold no weight with the unsaved community.

I agree. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that our society will go to great lengths to preserve our own pleasure, comfort, and convenience. To us, murder is inarguably a sin (well… murdering someone who is born already), because it negatively affects a lot of people’s pleasure and comfort, what with the person who actually gets killed and then all their friends and family.
However, immorality is pleasurable on some level to whoever willfully engages in it. It’s then considered horrifically judgmental and arrogant to call such acts a sin, because heaven forbid that I should have to give up something that makes me feel good…
Very thought-provoking macaroni, Molly.

great thoughts! i’ve been thinking alot about humanistic thought and the reality of how opposite humanism is to what the Bible says. anyway, on aside…1 Cor 6:9 is pretty powerful when someone claims homosexuality is only spoken of in the OT:
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Have you ever considered the relationship between theft and murder? If I come and steal your guitar, that which you saved up all your extra money for after paying off the bills for 7 months, I in effect robbed you of a large part of 7 months of your life. You cannot really get it back, it was stolen from you which is what murder is in part. The robbing of another’s life.
James may be speaking something akin to this when he reminds one that the pay the rich withheld from the laborer cries out to the Lord. May I suggest: Cries out like the blood of Abel cried out, which was a murder also.
Homosexuality is the ultimate ‘dis’ to God because it not only rejects His word but rejects His way of procreation. It is in effect anti-creation!
Or anti-Christ some would wisely discern.
